REGISTRATION FORM Lenhart April 2020 “The Recognition & Management of Sedation & Medical Emergencies” Life-Threatening Emergencies can and do occur in the Dental Office. Moderate Sedation and Oral Conscious Sedation can also reciprocate medical emergencies in the dental office. The immediate “Recognition and Management” of these emergencies essential to the ultimate outcome and safety of your patients. What you do in the first few minutes will make ALL the difference. OBJECTIVES: ● Familiarize the audience with the most common Medical Emergencies in the Dental Office. ● Describe Cardiac & Respiratory complications associated with sedation. ● List and discuss the recommended Equipment and Medications necessary for the safe and effective delivery of sedation. ● Discuss “TEAM Approach” and “Emergency Plan” with respect to Preparedness. ● Discuss the importance of MOCK DRILLS and/or Simulator Training. ● Recommend the necessary “Airway Rescue Devices” for Office-Based Anesthesia (OBA). ● Summarize the recommended “Preoperative Assessment” of sedation patients. ● Describe the importance of a limited Physical Exam and Airway Assessment. ● Review basic Emergency Management Algorithm. ● Recognition and Treatment of Common Complications associated with Moderate Sedation in the Dental Office; Airway Obstruction, Bronchospasm, Laryngospasm, Aspiration, Allergic Reaction, Local Anesthesia Overdose, Over Sedated
